Art is a person's (or cow's) individual unique explanation of how they experience the world around them. It is a very personal expression. Art is one of the few ways we can express things we think are right about the universe (everyone paints a beautiful sunset at some point in their lives) and things we think are wrong, unfair, or just a bit heartbreaking. Art is formed through contemplation on the human experience.
While we utilize digital illustration software (adobe illustrator) no part of our artwork, nor our story, nor our covers (or anything on this website for that matter) has been created using artificial intelligence software.
We eschew AI for two reasons – one personal and one ethical.
Personally, I believe my art is an expression of something inside of me searching for a voice. If I ceded that desire for expression to AI, I feel I would not appreciate the cathartic release creating art provides me.
Ethically, most AI models have been ‘trained’ using artwork taken from authors, musicians and artists without their consent. These trained models are then sold to consumers, earning the model builders profits but ignoring the rights and protections provided to the artists, authors and musicians.
Our policy is not meant to disparage what your artistic journey means to you. But, for me, the cows, and everyone here at FROMTHECOWS, we avoid Artificial Intelligence.
Print on Demand technology (for books and for merchandise) allows us to create products only when they are needed. This technology allows us to keep costs lower and, more importantly, it is really good for the environment as it stops overproduction.
